Panoramic views in Shropshire

If you know the Marches country, then you know you'll be coming to one of its finest sections - "God's Own Country", as a local resident called it.  If not, let us show you what you've been missing all these years.

Looking south over the valleys of the rivers Teme and Lugg the views sweep away across a rich traditional farmland landscape to the Black Mountains on the horizon.  Our pictures can only show you a fraction of this stunning panorama.

At Acorn Lodge we offer our very own un-usual guide for those who need to pack everything into their holiday, we are ideally situated to cover:-

Worcestershire: Elgars birthplace, hop fields, holly and mistletoe, fruit orchards and Malvern Hills with it own pure spring water and Tenbury Wells only 4 miles away.

Herefordshire: Beautiful historic Cathedral with chained library and crypt full of silver, Black and White Trail, numerous antique and collectables auctions houses with at least two auctions per week.

Shropshire: Birth of Charles Darwin, Ironbridge Museum, Stokesay Castle, Clun Castle, Severn Valley Railway, Acton Scott Museum, the wonderful poems of A.E.Housman and not forgetting the Historic town of Ludlow only 6 miles away plus many more interesting places to visit.

Why not seek out the forked tree shape on the remote parts of Clee Hills together with its history (All in our special guide) or climb high venalls for its magnificent views, see one of the wonders of the world (Elan valley pipe line built in the late 19th century) within walking distance, come and enjoy a carbon neutral holiday (using our wood burning stove)

A superb network of footpaths enable you to explore the countryside on foot, while within easy reach there are cycle hire businesses, horse riding, balloon flights and even a gliding school for the truly intrepid!

There is excellent coarse and game fishing to be had locally, several golf courses, and Ludlow Racecourse (NH) is just 7 miles away.

To savour the rich local culture and cuisine, travel around the Black-and-White Village Trail or the Teme Valley Trail, enjoying the produce offered through the "Taste of Shropshire" programme. Why not come for the Festivals and Shows in the area, Ludlow covers a wide range of interests, open air Shakespearian plays, tours around country houses, talks from well known celebrities, Food & Drink, Christmas Medieval Fayre plus many more to suit all interests including the Burwarton and Tenbury Wells Agricultural Shows just to mention a few.

History is literally all around you on the Clee Hills, from our own very local community history projects to the Ironbridge Gorge Museum, Severn Valley Railway, the great Castles of the Marcher Lords and the beautiful churches that dot the landscape.

You could, of course, just sit and unwind right here. The villages of the Clun Valley may be "the quietest under the sun" but Hope Bagot is their rival for tranquillity. Listen to the birdsong, relax on the Lodge balcony, take in the slower pace of life. At night, the stars wheel overhead in a dark and majestic sky, while owls and badgers pass within yards of your windows.

We have tried to make it an interesting place to stay to enable you to enjoy your holiday whether it be peace and quiet or more adventurous places to visit giving YOU our only guests our undivided attention, we pride ourselves on a personal service, cleanliness and attention to detail.

One of Britains finest landscapes can be seen from the Lodge, this can be yours if you stay at our holiday accommodation "Acorn Lodge".
