Shropshire Walks – Countryside Walks – Walking holiday

Visitors to Acorn Lodge will be pleased to discover that there are two local guidebooks for their exclusive use during their holiday that are available nowhere else. Written by Welsh Marches enthusiast and friend of the family Jane Miller, these books cover both road tours to discover Shropshire and local Shropshire walks. All are centred on your accommodation.

The walking in Shropshire guide “Walks from Acorn Lodge” is of particular interest to those who want to “go green” during their holiday and leave the car behind for at least part of their stay. Each walk starts, quite literally, from the private drive outside Acorn Lodge and is covered entirely on public pathways. The intention behind the guide was to offer guests an experience related to Clive Shakespeare’s personal, accompanied guided walks in Shropshire, but the freedom, for those who prefer self guided walking holidays, to cover the countryside walks themselves in their own time.

The Shropshire walks vary in length from a gentle half-mile to an extended-option walk of over four and a half miles. Each countryside walk has a written route description and detailed sketch map for the visitor to take with them, plus some notes on points of special interest that can be seen en route. Any difficult features, such as bogs or rough ground, are noted at the start of the description. Again, each walk has been covered on the ground by the author, and written up from field notes. Each Shropshire walk is illustrated with at least one photograph, to give guests a flavour of what they can expect to see.

The book of routes and walking maps can be borrowed from Mrs. Shakespeare during your stay. For more information please contact us.
