June trip to Hampton Court

Hampton Court Leominster

June trip to Hampton Court

Fathers’ Day is, of course, just behind us.  We decided to take a trip to Hampton Court to celebrate – no, not the one near London, the Herefordshire Hampton Court!  It’s actually older than its better-known namesake, (founded in 1427) and isn’t far from Leominster.  We had a lovely day exploring the grounds (including the cunning yew maze and the hidden tower with its secret passage) and the beautiful gardens, finishing with a tour of the grand house/castle itself.  This tour is much more suitable for those with limited walking ability than many guided tours, as there are a number of opportunities to sit down while the guide explains the story of the Court.

Hampton Court is always there for visitors to find for themselves, but guests arriving over the coming weeks will have plenty of opportunities to sample a number of fun local events that last for just one day.  We are just entering the season for local shows, fetes, galas and festivals, to say nothing of Open Gardens – there will be something of interest every weekend now until the end of summer.  Don’t ever let anyone tell you that nothing happens in the country – you’ll be spoiled for choice!
