Whitsun or Whitsunday is the name used for the Christian festival of Pentecost, the seventh Sunday after Easter which commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus.

Around this time this magnificent shrub is in full bloom. Its name is Whitsuntide Boss, a species of Viburnum and it's huge white pom-poms have a delicate perfume. It was grown from a finger sized cutting from Clive's Mum and is thriving in the garden adjacent to the lodge
