News from Acorn Lodge August 2023

Well, where has the time gone this summer?  We have been so busy with bookings at the Lodge that it seems only days since we were writing our Spring news, and here we are with the apples starting to ripen on the trees and the corn nearly ready to harvest in the fields.

As you know, it’s been a summer of mixed weather, from the blazing heat of June with scarcely a drop of rain, through July when it scarcely seemed to stop raining!  Our son Mark managed to make some really good early hay while the sun shone, but we were glad of the rain to start the grass growing for the sheep and cattle.

Whatever the weather, our guests have been out and about making the most of what the area has to offer.  Some have visited the West Midlands Safari Park just 20 miles away.

Some have been watching our native wildlife, like this heron at a lake near Cleobury Mortimer

Others have been happy to stay near the Lodge itself and enjoy our beautiful views and to see the birds on the feeder just outside the window.  If you are “at home” near sunset, you may catch a bonus like this.

Yes, there’s always something to see and do on a holiday at Acorn Lodge, in any season and any weather.  Many people don’t consider a winter break in Britain, yet it can be very rewarding with unexpected views opened up when the leaves are off the trees and hedges – and there’s always our cosy log burner stove and the lovely fragrance of woodsmoke for the long evenings!
